Fossils of the winged dinosaur Archaeopteryx show that it had adjusted scales that created feathers.
Archaeopteryx is considered as a halfway fossil between the dinosaurs and present day birds.
With its mixture of reptilian and avian qualities, it was for some time considered as the earliest known bird.
It was found in 1860 in Germany, it is here and there likewise called Urvogel, that is to say, the German expression for first bird or unique bird.
