What is sericulture?

Sericulture is a process of silk farming used to cultivate the silk from Bombyx mori a type of caterpillar. At first, the worms are fed enormously in the mulberry leaves and then undergo the pupating process in their cocoon.

These cocoons are dissolved in hot boiling waters after some time that is used to extract the fibers of the silk. This process of putting the cocoon in hot water is considered inhuman and torturous.

Therefore, Rima's mother made the decision to not wear silk.
