NOS and DOS have advantages and disadvantages. One of the differences are:  While NOS is able to run a process completely or partially at the server that is remote, DO/S can run a full or partial process at various sites.

What is NOS and DO/S?

The full meaning of NOS is Network Operating System. While DO/S is short for Disk Operating System.

The other variances between both systems are indicated below:

A - User Awareness

  • NOS - Enables users to know that there are various machines at play
  • DO/S -  Hides the difference of how many machines are operational.

B - Resource Access

  • NOS - When users want to use resources of different machines, they do so by literarily logging into the right workstation.
  • DO/S - Resource utilization and access with the DO/S is very similar to one using such resources locally.

C - Model of Architecture

  • NOS - In this case, a client-server model is used; while
  • DO/S - In this case, a master-slave model is utilized.
