What is a clause?
1. A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and predicate, and functioning as a member of a sentence.
2. A clause is the smallest grammatical unit that contains minimally a subject and a predicate, that can or can not express a complete thought or idea.
There are two types of clauses:
Independent and dependent.
- A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb BUT IS NOT a complete thought. IT CANNOT stand alone as a sentence.
- An independent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb that makes a complete thought. It can stand alone as a sentence.
