In Orbiting Jupiter, it is about a boy named Joseph who is a father at 13 with his daughter, Jupiter. This boy Jack who narrates the story meets Joseph as his parents are fostering him. It talks about Joseph and his struggles where people always have to be a little bit in front of him, he flinches when people touch him, and he gets in many fights at school. Joseph's real father abuses him and tries to get him back from the foster family. While Joseph trying to find Jupiter, he talks about Madeleine and the story gives a recap of what happened to lead to Madeleine and Joseph being separated. Joseph finds the house where Jupiter is fostered and gets a photograph of her. The father comes to Joseph's foster house and has a gun in his hand. The father wants Joseph and points a gun at Jack's side. Joseph eventually gives in, to see that Jack might get shot. The real father of Joseph drives off and crashes, where they both die at the scene. In the end, Joseph's foster family adopts Jupiter, Joseph's daughter. Jupiter waddles over to Jack and calls him "Jackie" which was what Joseph called him. Jack, still missing Joseph, says yes to Jupiter calling him Jack.
