We know that metabolic rate at which individual species carry out the process of metabolism.

It should be know that larger organisms that have a higher metabolic rate due to large mass and hence require less energy since metabolism produces heat. This owed to the fact that large size implies greater metabolism. Therefore,  less massive species tend to require more energy to survive.
