If two objects at different temperatures are brought in contact with each other, energy is transferred from the hotter object to the colder object.
The total energy of an isolated system remains constant irrespective of whatever internal changes may take place with energy conevrting in one form and reappearing in another.
When two substances at different temperatures come into contact, the substance with a higher temperature will transfer heat energy to the substance with a lower temperature, until their temperatures get equal.
Here, if the two substances are isolated then the law of conservation of energy states that the when heat released by the substance with a higher temperature is the same amount of heat gained by the substance lower a lower temperature.
