These are organisms in water which are divided into two known as:
- Phytoplankton- These are are autotrophic prokaryotic or eukaryotic algae.
- Zooplankton - These are small protozoans or metazoans.
- Mycoplankton- These include fungus organisms.
- Bacterioplankton - These include bacteria and archaea.
- Virioplankton - These include viruses.
They are usually non motile hence the reason why they are easily carried by ocean tide and current.
