What is a Plankton?

These are organisms in water which are divided into two known as:

  • Phytoplankton- These are are autotrophic prokaryotic or eukaryotic algae.
  • Zooplankton - These are small protozoans or metazoans.
  • Mycoplankton- These include fungus organisms.
  • Bacterioplankton - These include bacteria and archaea.
  • Virioplankton - These include viruses.

They are usually non motile hence the reason why they are easily carried by ocean tide and current.
