What is intimate partner violence (IPV) ?

Social stigmatization of transgender people, including IPV survivors and those who have not been exposed to IPV, creates unique stresses (also known as "minority stressors") that can have a significant impact on their physical and mental health.
With regard to internalizing mental health symptoms among young transgender women (YTW) survivors of IPV, the current study used a latent class analysis to discover combinations of protective processes (i.e., social support and collective self-esteem).
These findings demonstrate how a lack of social support and low levels of generalized self-esteem can significantly increase the probability of unfavorable internalizing mental health symptoms among YTW survivors of IPV.
