Piaget attached great importance to the education of his children. As director of UNESCO's International Education Bureau, he declared in 1934 that "only education, whether violent or gradual, can save society from collapse." His theories of child development are explored in his pre-service education program. Educators continue to adopt constructivist-oriented strategies.
He founded the International Center for Genetic Epistemology in Geneva in 1955 while Piaget was an undergraduate at the University of Geneva and headed the center until his death in 1980. Its creation and the number of collaborations that made its impact possible eventually came to be referred to in scholarly literature as 'Piaget's factory.
