There are two versions of the Kayagum : Beobgum is the version which is used in the court music and the Sanjo kayagum is adapted better for making faster melodic passages by making strings closer together and is generally used in folk music of the Korea.
Traditionally the Kayagum had only 12 strings but nowadays after too many modifications modern versions generally include up to 25 strings.
