Laser retinopexy is an in-office laser procedure which utilizes a laser to create a barricade (laser forms scar tissue) between the normal attached retina and the area of detachment.

A scleral buckle is a procedure performed for the repair of a retinal detachment. The term, “scleral buckle,” describes both a procedure and a piece of hardware that is placed on the eye. The procedure, itself, is a method of reattaching the retina without placing instruments inside the eye. In laser retinopexy, a strong light beam is applied around the tear to seal or “spot weld” the retina to the underlying tissues. This can stop the retina from detaching.
