What are the differences in the traditional Festivals?
The differences between Gai Jatra and Holi are as follows;
1) Gai Jatra: Gai Jatra, in Nepal means Cow Festival and is a festival celebrated in Nepal, primarily in Kathmandu valley by the Newar community. The festival is usually celebrated in the month of Bhadra which is from August to September. The date is usually set according to the lunar Nepa and falls on the first day of the dark fortnight of the month of Gunla.
2) Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, called the Festival of Love. This festival celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha Krishna. It also signifies the triumph of good over the evil, because it is a celebration of the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu.
This festival has its' origins in the Indian subcontinent and is primarily celebrated there. However, in recent times, it has also spread to other regions of Asia and parts of the Western world through the Indian diaspora.
