The prophets and angels are depicted by Cimabue in the same scene as the holy pair. All of them have slanted heads and are dressed in luxurious fabrics and hues. The angels are depicted by Giotto as unremarkable, uncomplicated individuals who are motivated by piety rather than wealth.
Giotto was mentored by Cimabue, therefore his style was akin to that of classicism or the Greek Manner, but with more Gothic characteristics and realism. They both exhibit intense emotional content.
