Explain the reason for shifting from fat to carbohydrate metabolism when a person increases exercise intensity. Does this mean that fat oxidation ceases?

Respuesta :

The reason for shifting from fat to carbohydrate metabolism when a person increases exercise intensity is because the fat metabolism is more complex as compared to glucose metabolism. It does not mean that fat oxidation ceases it is just reduced.

Carbohydrate metabolism is the utilization of the carbohydrate in order to provide energy for different types of activities. Similarly when fats are consumed it is called fat metabolism.

When the muscles are working at low intensity level fats are used for providing energy to the muscle. But as the intensity of the exercise increases the glucose consumption of the muscle cells increases to rapidly fulfill the demand of energy. Hence, glucose metabolism increases and fat metabolism decreases.
