Sex is a category based on biology and physiology while gender is a category based on socially construed characteristics.
The biological distinctions between males and females are referred to as sex (e.g. gonads, sexual organs, chromosomes, hormones).Typically, sex is determined at birth. Sex can be altered; sex reassignment procedures are carried out on transsexuals, who are born with the sex traits of one sex and the gender identification of the other. A change in sex organs and the administration of hormones are included in this.
Gender is a social, psychological, and cultural construct that emerges during the socialization process. Different societies and cultures may therefore have different understandings of what is ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’. Gender-related norms and expectations are created by societies, and people learn about them throughout their lives, including in the home, at school, and through the media. All of these forces force everyone in society to adopt specific roles and behavioral patterns.
