Acclimatization is the term that applies to the physical and physiological changes experienced by astronauts who spend months in space.

The physiological adaptation of the human body to new climatic conditions is called acclimatization. This process happens naturally. In order for the stress of a new climatic condition to be less intense in the end, the human body must be able to go through physiological adjustments.

This could be a one-time event or it could be a part of a recurrent cycle, as a mammal shedding its thick winter coat in favor of a lighter summer one. When their environment changes, organisms can modify their morphological, behavioral, physical, and/or physiological features.

Even though the ability of thousands of species to adapt to new settings has been thoroughly documented, scientists still know relatively little about how and why organisms adjust in the manner that they do.
