  • Western and Southern - Supported the War

What were attitudes about the War of 1812?

The War of 1812 drew a lot of different attitudes from the regions of the United States based on what the region stood to gain. The Northeast relied heavily on trade with Europe and so opposed the war because it was draining their resources and preventing trade.

The Western and Southern parts of the nation were not as reliant on trade and indeed saw the war as an opportunity to expand the United States which would mean more lands for settlement. They therefore supported the War of 1812.
