Slavery in Africa was started by European merchants in the beginning of 16th century. The first Africans dropped at the colonies ere at Jamestown. Within the British colonies, they maintained a status just like white apprenticed servants. In contrast to the white apprenticed servants, however, the in enslaved Africans didn't volunteer their labor.
The Middle Passage was the stage of the Atlantic slave trade within which many enslaved Africans were transported to America as a part of the triangular slave traffic.
