Responsibility for enforcing the Equal Pay Act was originally assigned to the secretary of Labor but on July 1, 1979 it was transferred to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The Department of Labor had the responsibility for enforcement, until the Federal Reorganization Plan No.1 of 1978, which shifted the responsibility for both the Equal Pay Act and Age Discrimination in Employment Act to the EEOC, as of July 1,1979.
Equal Pay Act was signed by President John F. Kennedy into a law in 1963.
