Where is zinc acetate used ?
Some medications, such as lozenges for the treatment of the common cold, have zinc acetate as a component. Zinc acetate is a food supplement as well. It is taken as an oral daily supplement to prevent the body from absorbing copper as part of the management of Wilson's disease. Zinc acetate is also offered as a topical astringent in the form of an ointment, a lotion, or in combination with an antibiotic like erythromycin. Topical anti-itch ointments are frequently offered with it.
