Engagement is the act of doing something that ties our critical viewpoint to our responsibility as citizens to critique our media institutions and adds our voice to the process of influencing the cultural landscape.
To the fullest extent possible, we must actively seek to build a media landscape that supports democracy. So, we suggest adding engagement as the fifth stage of the crucial process.
Engagement could take the shape of anything as straightforward as drafting a formal letter or email to our 60 Minutes and New York Times examples to offer a critical perspective on the news storylines we are analyzing.
