Hans Spemann and colleagues developed the concept of the "organizer" in amphibian embryos while studying the D. dorsal lip of the blastopore.
Hans Spemann was a famous embryologist who subdivided a cleaving amphibian in the year 1903 which lead to the development of the concept of organizer in amphibian embryos.
The studies done by Hans Spemann and colleagues showed that the part of the cleaved tadpole that contained the dorsal lip of the blastopore was the one which formed a well-proportioned tad-pole. Hence, the dorsal lip of the blastopore acted as an organizer for proper development of a tadpole.
For this study, a baby-hair loop was used by Hans Spemann in order to subdivide the amphibian. The particular amphibian which Hans Spemann and colleagues chose for studying was salamander eggs.
