The experimental group in a scientific experiment is the one on which the experimental procedure is carried out. The independent variable is changed for each group, and the impact on the dependent variable is recorded. Experimental and control groups must be present in order to have sufficient data to prove that the link between the independent and dependent variables is not the result of chance.
