David's genealogy appears in the book of Ruth 4:13-22

According to the book of Genesis, Judah was the leader and founder of one of the 12 tribes of Israel, named after him. He was the fourth son of Jacob and Leah.

He had three children with his Caannite wife: Er, Onan, and Shelah. Later, deceived by his widowed daughter-in-law Tamar, he conceived twins. It is from this line that David, and ultimately Christ, were descended.
