The Reformation abolished the celibacy for priests, monks and nuns and promoted marriage as the ideal state for both men and women. While men still had the opportunity to become clergymen, women could no longer become nuns, and marriage came to be seen as the only proper role for a woman.
The Protestant Reformation had far-reaching consequences on all levels. Literacy rates skyrocketed as Protestants were encouraged to read the Bible for themselves and education was elevated to a higher priority.
The Reformation affected women in the 16th & 17th centuries by having them be more educated and putting them through school.
