Sasha's belief that studying is useless because the questions on college tests are so unrelated to course work. This type of thinking implies that she has an external locus of control. She doesn't believe that studying makes tests easier rather she assumes that studying is useless.

A person with an external locus of control doesn't believe that their actions make changes but only will believe in fate or luck.
