A single parent is someone who has not remarried after being unmarried, widowed, or divorced. Single parent households consist of a parent/caregiver and one or more dependent children who do not have the presence and support of a spouse or adult partner who shares parental responsibilities. Mississippi has the greatest rate of single-parent homes in the country.
