When mechanically securing an injured child's head and neck to a backboard, you should avoid placing a strap or tape over the chin.

Backboard is a stiff board on which a wounded person and particularly one with neck or spinal injuries is placed and immobilized so as to stop any injury throughout transport.

In order to tie an injured child to a backboard firstly place the hands in acceptable position, then roll patient onto backboard jointly as a unit. Position patient in center of backboard. Secure body to backboard using acceptable strapping devices in correct sequence (chest, hips, feet). Pad any natural hollows, then secure patient's head to backboard using acceptable equipment.
