The classification of indirect and direct sounds is primarily room acoustics. This applies to large halls and large home theaters. Speaker sound reflects off walls before reaching it. Reflections are avoided if the walls have some absorption. Inside the house is a very small room and the reflections are so close together that you can't really hear them, so there's very little indirect sound.
If you are in an auditorium and singing on stage, indirect sound (echo) is any reverberation that occurs. There are many theaters and halls where it is very difficult to understand what is being said on stage. Because when you hear the second word, a reflection of the first word reaches you.
