Human relations movement started with the publication of the results of the Hawthorne studies.
The Hawthorne studies were initially conducted to look into the connection between workplace safety and productivity. However, the experiments represented ground-breaking management research and helped launch the human relations movement.
Sociologist George Elton Mayo established the human relations movement in the 1930s as a result of the Hawthorne studies, a set of investigations into the relationship between worker satisfaction/wellbeing and workplace efficiency. Hawthorne experiments demonstrated that better job performance resulted from increased focus on the employees. Later, the Hawthorne effect is given to this phenomenon.
