On the posterior abdominal wall, the ureters extend downward behind the parietal peritoneum and join the urinary bladder from below. The urinary bladder functions as a temporary storage space for urine. It is located under the parietal peritoneum and posterior to the pubic symphysis in the pelvic cavity. The shape and size of the urinary bladder changes based on the amount of urine it carries and the amount of pressure it receives from other organs.
How are ureters connected to the urinary bladder?
The tubes termed as ureters are responsible for transporting urine from the kidneys to the bladder. The ureters and bladder are connected by microscopic openings known as ureteric orifices. On each side of the spine, right below the ribs, are the kidneys, which filter the blood and generate urine. Each kidney's ureter, which carries urine, empties into a storage region in front of the bladder.
