The Average rate change in [-1,1] is 1
The average rate of change in the interval [a,b] is defined by:
[tex]A(x)=\frac{f(b)-f(a)}{b-a}[/tex]
We know by the graph that [a,b]=[-1,1] and f(-1)=-3 , f(1)=-1
Using the definition above:
[tex]A(x)=\frac{-1-(-3)}{1-(-1)}=\frac{3-1}{1+1}=\frac{2}{2}=1[/tex]
