In this excerpt, we see that Mr. Hyde has won, as Dr. Jekyll is unlikely to ever show his face again. We also know that Jekyll's own face is now forever altered. This passage shows that Dr. Jekyll's real personality was always Mr. Hyde. He was hidden, but has now won the battle, and cannot be hidden anymore. This is because evil can never truly hide itself.
