Senator Hirono is a co-chair of the Senate Impact Aid Coalition and has advocated for increased Impact Aid funding as well as other federal funding to support school infrastructure projects.
Senator Hirono stated that immigration judges require new legal safeguards against political interference from the President at a time when the Trump administration is constantly attacking the rule of law and threatening immigrant communities. I will continue to oppose this administration's efforts to use retaliatory threats to compel our nonpartisan immigration judges to implement his discriminatory immigration policies. Senator Harris stated that our immigration courts will only function if we keep them nonpartisan rather than using them to carry out Attorney General Jeff Sessions' political agenda. We must protect the integrity of our courts from political interference, which is contrary to the rule of law, because this President has demonstrated a disregard for the independence of our institutions.
