They do not wish to defy morality because doing so will result in unemployment, social marginalization, isolation, and public humiliation. They aren't prepared to take on the system of moral decline and degradation. As a result, a society makes a morally irresponsible decision. It will eventually devolve into an immoral society, because societies can only flourish when moral evolution is ongoing.
