The Jeffersonian Party is known as the Democratic-Republican Party or simply Republican Party. The leader of this party was Thomas Jefferson. He was elected as the president of this party for two continuous terms.

The Jeffersonian Party believed in individual freedom and the right of states. They believed that the power concentration in the hands of George Washington and John Adams represents a great threat to the freedom of the people.

During the 19th century, the Republican party supported slavery to gain the support of  Southern voters.
