French painter, printmaker, and sculpture Honore Daumier's works remark on social and political life in France from the Revolution of 1830 through the collapse of the Second Napoleonic Empire in 1870.
Throughout the majority of Honore Daumier's life, he supported himself by creating caricatures and cartoons of political officials and satirising his countrymen's actions in newspapers and journals, for which he rose to fame during his lifetime and is still recognized today. He was a republican democrat who railed against the aristocracy, the church, the legal system, politicians, and the monarchy. More than 100 sculptures, 500 paintings, 1000 sketches, 1000 wood engravings, and 4,000 lithographs were created by the indefatigable and creative artist Daumier.
