The three main literary genres are prose, poetry, and drama.
Prose is called "ordinary writing." It is made out of sentences and paragraphs without any rhyming structure.
Poetry attempts to stir the reader's emotions. There are many types of poetry. Some contain rhyme or meter, while others do not. Poems tend to be more descriptive.
Drama is represented through dialogue and performance. It is presented through verse and prose.
