I have an algebra question I can't quite figure it out. Can anyone please help?
A chemist has a 30% and a 45% acid solution. What amount of each solution should be used to make 500ml of solution with 35% acidity?
A) 133 1/3ml of 30% solution and 366 2/3ml of 45% solution
B) 250 ml of each solution.
C) 333 1/3 ml 30% solution and 166 2/3 ml of 45% solution
D) 400 ml of 30% solution and 100 ml of 45% solution

By the way, the 1/3 and 2/3 are fractions.

Respuesta :

So, the difference in solutions is 15%. Thus, to get a 35% acidity, you would need 2 30% to  1 45% (105/3) = 35

So, 2/3 of 500 = 333 1/3 of 30% and 1/3 of 500 = 166 1/3 of 45%

The answer is C.

The correct answer is:

C. 333 1/3 ml 30% solution and 166 2/3 ml of 45% solution.

The amounts of each solution as shown above should be used to make 500ml of solution with 35% acidity.
