In the Great Gatsby, what are Nick Carraway's dilemmas? What advice would you give him? After assessing Nick's dilemma's, write a self-improvement plan for him.

Respuesta :

Nick's main dilemma is that he is very distant emotionally. He has problems figuring out his feelings towards Jordan, for example. He also struggles to form a connection with his cousin Daisy, mostly because they are polar opposites. She lives such a lavish lifestyle that he is thrown off and just in awe every time he is around her. I guess he could be considered more of an observer and a "background character" because he tends to survey an entire scene/situation before formulating an opinion. In the beginning, his admiration for Gatsby is evident and he's almost mesmerized by this image created by Gatsby. By the end, Nick learns that Gatsby isn't all that he's worked up to be and has a rough past, showing that Nick needs to stop fantasizing over things and trying to imitate his life to replicate Gatsby's. His "self-improvement plan" would be trying to get more emotionally involved with friends and family such as Daisy, Jordan, etc without completely fantasizing and obsessing over someone, as he did with Gatsby.
