This is a nice question to ask. Well if African Americans were to leave the South in large numbers the labor, production, and economy would decrease. Slaves and their labor controlled much of the economy in the South and that is largely why slavery went on as long as it did.

If the African Americans left the South in huge numbers there would be a fall in productivity in the South.

The African Americans were basically used to provide cheap and free labor in the Southern farms.

Without a great number of them, the Southern farms would experience devastating impacts such as

  • Decrease in harvests.
  • Fall in productivity
  • Fall in income.
  • Economic downturn in the Southern economy

In conclusion, if the African Americans left the South in great huge numbers, the economy of the South would suffer.
