Friction is produced when objects slide past one another.

Friction acts in a direction opposite to the direction of an object's motion.

Friction always acts in the same direction.

Friction is a contact force because it acts on something that is rolling, sliding and bouncing on any surface. Friction Acts on something in the opposite direction. Friction sometimes acts in the same direction. Friction does not only affect solids, Friction acts on everything.
