In may 1963, birmingham police chief eugene bull connor unleashed his forces against this group. the actions deeply affected president kennedy, causing him to endorse the civil rights movement.
After America witnessed the actions done by the Police Chief Connor, President Kennedy was pressured to act on the matter. It made Congress pass a reform bill in civil rights which were pushed by President Johnson after President Kennedy's death the same year.
