The artist behind the famous painted wood sculpture of priest Muchaku was Unkei, it was decribed as "with rock crystal inlaid eyes" that captured the beauty of realism. This sculpture was made around the Kamarkura period (1192-1333) at Kōfuku-ji, Nara, Japan.
