What countries did President Harry Truman want to help with the Truman Doctrine? What did he want from the American people?

It was originally designed to help countries that were being oppressed by the Soviet Union, including Greece and Turkey. It was a fight back against communism, and added tensions to the Cold War, which was a standoff between America and communist Russia.
