Every paragraph in an essay should have A. cause-and-effect signal words to indicate key relationships. B. a written appeal to the audience. C. a topic sentence that states the main idea. D. three supporting paragraphs.
I would definitely go with C. a topic sentence. While A. is never a bad idea, essay paragraphs tend to get marked as off topic if there is not a topic sentence. Hope this is helpful!
