The answer would be its quotation. This dictionary was made by Samuel Johnson after a series of complaints from the booksellers in 1775. Johnson had written a dictionary with 1500 guinea. It took him seven years before this dictionary was published.
A Dictionary of the English Language was unique because of its scale and intention. Samuel Johnson wanted to encapsulate the best usage of his day, with thousands of quotations from Sir Philip Sydney, differently from other dictionaries before. This book enjoyed unique authority among successive generations of users.
