What is significant about the turtle's actions after it has been hit by the truck is that it takes time to recover but never gives up.
This excerpt from Chapter Three of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck shows how a turtle is able to recover and make it across a road after being hit by a truck. In that way, it implies that, despite the adversities and obstacles, the turtle never gives up and it is determined to achieve its goal ("at last its legs waved in the air, reaching for something to pull it over"). Moreover, in the novel, the turtle is a symbol of the Joads, a poor and hard-working family that is also victim of a harsh world.
