Mandela's speech was referring to what is currently happening in South Africa. Mandela knew that these existing problem would continue to plague the country for years. He knew racism, violence, and poverty will continue even in the future. So, in his speech he reminded his brothers and countryman that reward will come. it might not be monetary but it will circle more on the changes in society.
